Atomic Hydrogen Kinematics

If we assume that the atomic hydrogen in the galaxy follow circular orbits around the galactic centre, it is straightforward to calculate the expected line-of-sight velocity of gas at radius R where the angular velocity of the Galaxy is Omega(R) as a function of its galactic latitude l:
