The Berkeley Center for Cosmological Physics led by 2006 Nobel Prize Winner George Smoot is seeking student applicants for its fifth annual two week summer workshop for high school students and teachers.
The Physics in and Through Cosmology workshop was held at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory adjacent to the University of California Berkeley Campus beginning Monday, July 11 and ending Tuesday, July 19.
This opportunity is brought to you by a partnership with QuarkNet, the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab department of Physics, and BCCP. The workshop is designed for high school students with an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
The format allows students to work in small groups under the guidance of master teachers and undergraduate science and engineering students. The ideal student applicant will have taken algebra, one science course and have some knowledge of chemistry. Every student will increase their knowledge of their place in the universe; its history, structure and fate while having a positive, enjoyable learning experience. Prior knowledge of cosmology is not necessary.
