.htaccess and .htpasswd files give a per directory level password protection for documents on a server.

These are the types of protection that can be used.

any password typed into a name/password combination is sent in uuencoded form to the server, not encrypted but not plain text either

multiple users

This document is accessible to user html with password html and user sgml with password sgml.


Domain

This document is only accessible to clients running on machines inside domain demon.co.uk.
