Description:
The S.I.M. (Serial Imput Module) is a DAS compatible module which converts optically transmitted RS-232 format serial data into 16-bit parallel format.
Function in MAX system:
The S.I.M. recieves pointing and housekeeping data from the ACS computers and imputs this data to the DAS to be incorporated into the data acquisition frame.
Technical Details:
Data manipulation is achieved through the use of an embedded 386 PC with expansion cards. The power supply is RF-shielded and command inputs are optically ground-isolated. The S.I.M. occupies a double-width NIM bin.
Documentation:
The binder containing documentation and backup software is located on the MAX binder shelf.
